Within the area of Srisakes province, there are many important archaeological sites of interest spread around, these archaeological ruins represent symbolic monuments of the early civilization of mankind in the past. Most of them are of small size. The large one sed to be in Kantralak district before while it was under Thailand's jurisdiction. Thai find art archaeological site as published in the official gazette on October 11, 1994. As a consequence of the World court's verdict, Prasat Khao Viharn has been attached to Cambodia since July 16, 1962.

Prasart Khao Praviharn is a large Khmer style temple complex built on the mountain range of Phanom Dong Ruk, comprising 4 states of terraces sucessively elevated to the peak of the hill.

The pathways through each terrace are made of it own sandstone of the mountain and the stairways are decorated connectedly through up to the peak where the fourth terrace of the main tower located adjacent to the cliff, the projection rock where the average sea level is 657 meters.
The location of Prasart Khao Praviharn strategically placed in an unique position, particulary, the orientation of the structure of the temple complex is in accordance with the philisophy of Hinduism doctrine, eventhough the front part of the temples face towards the North which is different from others in Khmer style which normally they will face the East.

Evidently from the content of the inscription, it reveals that this Khmer-style mountain temple complex was built in B.E. 15th and later on in B.E. 16th-17th, additional expansion was, in progress and it was completed in the reign of kingSuriyavaraman II, who ordered the announcment to record on the inscription stone, in additionto the recorded content, there is an instruction concerning regulation, procedures how to perform the sacrificial ceremoney, praising and blessing the caretakers of the inscription as well cursing the one who will destroy this announcement inscript.

Historically, it is evidently true that Prasart Khao Pra Viharn has been of significance from the past, though it is not used for any religious ceremony and more, trace of its grandeur, artistic beauty, outstanding architectural achievenment still remain admirable. The remaining ruins are evidence to confirm the above statement suitably.

Starting a trip from the bottom, from the stairway of the temple of the first terrace, it has 12 methers in width, 163 steps, flanked with a couple of lion guardians on the first part of the stair way, then the reclining seven head NAGA gardians stretching lengthwise to be used as stair case rails for anohter 25 stair steps, nearby there is a structural plan of small office building in a cross shape.
Though the temple is in dilapidated condition but the trace of exquiste beauty still remains, paricularly, the front part stone gable shaped in NAGA and the associated intricately decorative design.
From the first terrace, a road along the hill side, 5 metres in width, 256 metres in length, flanked with a row of supporting columns along the road. Most of them are in dilapidated condition, only
the root parts can visibly seen. The end of the road joining the basement of the temple on the second terrace, there are 43 stairsteps. Before reaching the stair we may see the purifying pond
on the left which is surrounded by a stone wall in a step from all 4 sides of the pond.
